About our Keynote Speaker
Dr. Ismail Abdullahi is professor of Global Library and Information Science at the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University. Prior to joining NCCU SLIS, he was a tenured professor at Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Science 1992-2005. Dr. Abdullahi received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He is among the longest and most distinguished serving person in the American Library Association (ALA) and the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA). His professional engagement, including serving on ALA's International Relations Committee and the ALA Diversity Committee, reflects his commitment to applied diversity and inclusion in the field. As an LIS educator, Dr. Abdullahi's diversity work is also reflected in his commitment to Library and Information Science education. He is editor of Global Library and Information Science: A Textbook for Students and Educators, and he is also the creator of a study abroad program with the Denmark Royal School of Library and Information Science. Dr. Abdullahi is a pioneer and leader in LIS, as reflected in his other numerous awards, including the Harold Lancour Award for Excellence in International and Comparative Study in Library and Information Sciences, the Leadership Award of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, North Carolina Library Association's Roadbuilder's Award for Library Education, and most recently, the 2018 John Ames Humphry/OCLC/Forest Press Award.
